Hello and welcome to the new home of the old blog, Mk II – the old one was a bit too limited for my tastes so it had to go, unfortunately. Setting this up has been a fairly steep learning curve but it’s going well enough at the moment – there are still major changes to occur with design (the background and all the colours will likely be very different by the time I’m through) and I’ve still to get the gallery up and running, so things will be hectic here for a while. Bear with me!

Here’s hoping for a merry blogging future.

  1. Mmm nice background, the Eagle Nebula is pretty spectacular.

  2. Have you been php-ing from scratch? If so, nice..!

One thing which you might not be aware of is that the comment boxes are all black at the minute… But I daresay that’s on the list :-)

  3. Yes, you’re right. It’s very black. I’ve not php’d the lot myself – I’m pretty much working out what I’m doing as I go along and to create this in php would require expertise I do not have. I’ve modified a fair amount of the CSS stylesheets and created background for myself, but the remainder is adapted from another theme. Sorry to disappoint!

Comment boxes are no longer black, although previously added comments are either black or purple. This will also need addressing lol.

Out of interest, does the background align correctly on your computer?

  4. It seems to be fine on mine, only now I seem like a loon mentioning an Eagle Nebula that’s not here :P

  5. Give or take a few pixels, yes.

I have a feeling that I am going to have to avoid using emoticons in comments from now on…

  6. Oh, and paragraph/line breaks on comments need sorting too, for the picky aesthetes among us :-P

  7. Hmm, you’re right. IT seems to just collapse line breaks completely down, but it maintains new lines.

Tricky. I’ve put a space in the line above to see if it makes a difference. that one might take longer to fix…

  8. Huzzah for WordPress! Quite a step up from Windows Live Spaces, innit?

    Looks good, anyhow.

  9. Thanks. It is a step up indeed, although it’s a bit of a learning curve for someone with very little prior experience with creating websites – still, think I’ve caught on rapidly enough and my past foray into python certainly helped!

  10. Does HTML work in the comment boxes? I’d try it, but I don’t want to look like a complete tool and have people point and laugh.

  11. lets see I think so Not sure how complex it can be before it no longer functions though

  12. Awesome

I bet you’re buzzing at the amount of comments that have come within less than 5 days of blog beginnings I like the recent comments feature, it helps in continuing conversations…

  13. And yes, shocked by the comment volume actually! the recent comments feature is helpful indeed, and it does keep a handy eye on comments on entries which have sunk from the top of the pile.

  14. Also, seriously considering phpBB board at this rate!

    Comment by Callan — April 29, 2008 #

  15. I find it helpful to be able to link comments to the original post (in the same browser window) which you’d lose in a discussion board. The ‘recent comments’ promotes response anyway, as you say, through not allowing things to get lost.

  16. Yes…I prefer the scrolling background. Will need to play with the images through to neaten it up.
