Chatroulette

A completely useless service unless drunk, at which point it becomes quite a lot of fun. Sadly, 90% of the population of chatroulette appear to be dicks, often literally, or people trying to get girls. Lesson one: if you’re looking to find some girls, get out from in front of your computer. We spent a while with a strobe light having a chatroulette rave. People, however, often not inclined to party with us. The house rules for the Chatroulette Drinking Game are still under development but believe you me, they shall be marvellous.

ANYWAY, basically what prompted this was the suddenly-incredibly-popular video here, which in itself basically validates the thing. It is genius, and trés impressive in parts also.

Many thanks for all the musical recommendations. It would seem that some of you are a little guilty of the ‘you must listen to ALL OF THESE PEOPLE’ syndrome, followed by an enormous list of artists who realistically I’m not going to be able to listen to the catalogue of before the turn of the century.* Not that I don’t appreciate it, but all I end up doing then is listening to a couple of songs of each and I might miss the good ones. On that note, I feel I must reconsider Metric: I was somewhat unenthused by the first few things I listened to but then I heard Gold Guns Girls and was sold just because it is so fundamentally invigorating. And the rest follows, there are only a couple of songs on their album I’ve not warmed to particularly. So yes. Working on the all the other artists, although I should warn that I’m not particularly folk-music-oriented like many of you seem to be, so that may be a stumbling block.

*not that I don’t appreciate the effort but 7 artists in three lines?!

Español

I do not speak spanish, and my exam is tomorrow. Yes, on a Saturday, the world is rubbish. Anyway, this is basically a post of regret – the Spanish course I have done is easy and under other circumstances I’d've enjoyed it, learnt it well, probably continued it and actually ended up speaking spanish well enough to get by in a spanish speaking country. I have not done any of these things, because in the end when I weigh up my workload spanish always loses out to medicine, because medicine is quite simply more important. From that stance the quality of my spanish goes rapidly downhill and thus the enjoyment wanes in proportion.

Yes, it is entirely my fault, but I just think it’s a shame that it is. I’m aiming for a solid 40%, which I am currently over with coursework etc, so I don’t need to do well to pass. Flipside, I hate doing things badly when I know full well that I could have aced the whole course if I’d put in a bit of effort.

Shame on me.

To make myself feel better, here is something cheery I found on the internet.

Watch this, then read. Or just read, but it won’t make much sense.

I wasn’t sure that there was a lot to this video, with the exception of the section from about 3:30 to 4:12. I was going to say more, but I don’t think there’s anything I want to add.

Good spam. Like good AIDS.

Aaaah. I think the word ‘fraudulous’ has made my day.

Jenny has asked me to explain that due to various undefined technological issues, her blog is temporarily down. I am told it should be back in a few days.
